Call your bank and make a complaint: I want my bank to stop torching the climate!
The fossil fuel industry is trying to use Russia’s war on Ukraine as a reason to push for fossil fuel expansion. As governments and corporations pull away from Russian oil, US fossil fuel companies are trying to use it as an excuse to lock in new fossil fuel projects for decades to come. Now more than ever, we need customers doing everything in their power to tell banks to stop funding fossil fuel expansion.
- Chase customers: call 1(212) 270-6000

to this:
Step 3) Grab your phone and call your bank’s general line:
- Chase customers: call 1(212) 270-6000
- Bank of America customers: call 1(800) 432-1000
- Wells Fargo customers: call 1(866) 878-5865
- Citibank customers: call 1(888) 248-4226
Step 4) When someone answers:
Call Script: “Hi I’m [NAME] and I’m a customer and I’d like to make a complaint, can I please speak to a supervisor?”
Step 5) When you get to make the complaint/talk to the supervisor:
Call Script: “Hello! My name is [NAME] and I have been a customer with [BANK NAME] for [#] years and I’d like to make a formal complaint about [BANK NAME]’s fossil fuel financing.
[BANK NAME] has provided [INSERT NUMBER: Chase: $142, Citibank: $108, Bank of America: $92, Wells Fargo: $70,] billion dollars in financing in the last five years to the corporations most aggressively expanding their fossil fuel operations. Meanwhile, last May, the International Energy Agency published a report laying out a roadmap to achieving the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, where they said “There is no need for investment in new fossil fuel supply in our net zero pathway.”
I would like to lodge an official complaint about [BANK NAME]’s support of the fossil fuel industry ― an industry whose basic business model is incompatible with reigning in catastrophic climate change. And I would furthermore like to ask that [BANK NAME] passes policies to end its financing of any corporation that is expanding its fossil fuel operations. This is essential to protect your customer’s livelihoods and communities. Thank you!
