Student activists at 8 Minnesota colleges and universities demonstrate to stop Line 3
(MINNESOTA) On Friday, March 5, hundreds of students from eight colleges and universities across Minnesota demanded their schools’ investments in the Line 3 oil pipeline.
Students led Line 3 solidarity events at the University of Minnesota Morris, UMD, UMN Twin Cities, Carleton College, St Olaf College, The College of St Benedict’s, Gustavus Adolphus College, and Macalester College.
After the successful day of action, students collaborated with the national College Climate Coalition and the Divest Canada coalition to hold an international virtual rally. Hundreds of students from around the US and Canada joined the rally to learn about the harms of the Line 3 pipeline and how their institutions are financially supporting its construction.
The Minnesota student organizers were joined by Tara Houska, an Anishinaabe leader on the frontlines of the movement to Stop Line 3 and long-time advocate for defunding harmful fossil fuel industry projects.
